Everyone at Freedom Health was saddened in November to learn that trainer Dessie Hughes had passed away. For those of you who may not be aware, Dessie was considered a legend in Ireland not only for his achievements as a jockey and a trainer, but also as a gentleman. We are all lucky to have had the opportunity to work with him.
Dessie’s daughter Sandra has taken over as trainer at Osborne Lodge. Sandra gained her first winner at Fairyhouse in the maiden hurdle with Sub Lieutenant in late November, followed by her first Grade One Hurdle at Fairyhouse the next day, with Lieutenant Colonel ridden by Bryan Cooper. Since taking over, Sandra has had 52 runners of which four won and eleven were placed.
We wish Sandra Hughes every success and have no doubts that she will continue her father’s legacy.
