SUCCEED® Blog:

Where #SeriousHorsePeople come to better understand digestive health in horses and its impact and management.

Tom Crisp

Tom was first introduced to SUCCEED® by Emma at Munstead Horse Trials while searching for a product to support overall digestive tract health in his team of eventers, especially as training intensified and the demands of traveling and competing increased. He was looking for something to help mitigate the risks to gut health that can arise when managing horses for peak athletic performance and SUCCEED® Digestive Conditioning Program™ fit perfectly.

His top 5* campaigner, Liberty and Glory, was the first to go on SUCCEED. Within a couple of weeks, Tom noticed she was less stressed around feed times and showed an improved appetite. Over the following months, she continued to feel and perform really well, maintaining her condition even when away at competitions, where her anxious nature often affected her feed intake. Tom explains, “Competitions are crucial times when nutritional intake and maintaining energy levels are vital for optimal performance. SUCCEED really helped her appetite and supported her GI tract during those high-stress environments.”

Encouraged by the results, Tom put two more horses on SUCCEED: Killeenhousestud Obos 16, a younger mare also prone to stress around feeding, but who needed to efficiently utilise her quality feed for the increased pressures ahead of Blenheim CCI-S 4* 8/9YO, and Dassett Rock Star, who successfully completed several 4* events this year and is being prepared for 5* competition in 2025. Tom has been delighted with how both horses continued to look great, feel more comfortable, and consistently perform well throughout the season whilst avoiding any sign of digestive tract issues.

SUCCEED has become an essential part of his horses’ GI health management. “As riders, everything we do is focused on achieving and maintaining our horses’ wellness, especially when they’re working hard at home and performing their best in competition. Gut health is a vital part of that. It’s essential to have horses that are happy, eating well, and feeling comfortable so they can meet—and exceed—the demands of high-level performance.

At the top level, the margins are so small that having the edge that optimal gut health provides can make all the difference. SUCCEED is now an integral part of my yard’s management, and I’m excited to keep using it to ensure my horses come out next season happy, healthy, and ready to hit the ground running.”
